Valkyr Lodge, February 4 - 11, 2008

Valkyr Lodge is one of the newer additions to the Kootenay backcountry scene. It is located between Nakusp and Nelson, in the middle of big snow country in the southern Selkirk Mountains. I have skied there several times and have been impressed with the variety of terrain available from the lodge. There are gentle slopes, steep shots and plenty of cliffs to huck if that is what you are into! There is a lot of great tree skiing as well as open alpine bowls. The lodge is new and comfortable, with indoor washrooms, showers and a sauna. Owners Shelly and Martin Glasheen are your friendly hosts; Shelly is well known for her great home cooking! Difficulty: There are slopes to accommodate all types of skiers who have skied in powder snow before. Two guides allow us a lot of flexibility in splitting the group up.
Trip length: 8 days.

Price: C$2100. This includes helicopter shuttle in and out of the lodge, 2 certified guides, accommodation including shower and sauna, a small group of 8-10 people and all meals. 6% GST is extra.

This week has been reserved by one of my regular groups, but there may be some spaces available. Campbell has a reputation for good snow, terrain and a comfortable lodge.
