The climbs listed on this page are ideal for the complete novice, families or for those that have done some climbing before but want to learn more. They involve day trips that combine a hike to a mountain and then some easy climbing. Usually the climbing consists of rock scrambling where you occassionally may have to use your hands. There may be a snow slope or two to cross. I use the rope to protect you on short exposed sections. I have also included a glacier walk here that does not climb a peak but gives exceptional views of the mountains in the Lake Louise area.

So have a look and pick a route you are interested in. Feel free to contact me for more information.

Victoria Glacier Walk

This short trek takes us up the Plain of Six Glaciers trail before walking across the moraines to the Victoria Glacier. We'll talk about how the glaciers and mountains were formed and get a close up view of the ice, crevasses and the towering peaks directly above us. We're sure to witness ice avalanches falling off of Mt Victoria (from a safe distance!). A stop at the Plain of Six Glacier Teahouse completes a great day!

Difficulty: A moderate hike. 6 hours.
Season: June through October.
Price: Includes guiding fee, climbing gear (only a harness is needed), transportation and tax. Take 10% off during the low season (before July 1 and after September 1).
1 person - C$320

Mt Fairview (2744 m/9000 ft)

This is one of the most incredible viewpoints in the Rockies. The peak stands above Lake Louise amongst the highest peaks in the area. It's not really any more than a strenuous hike but it's well worth the effort! This peak is an especially fine outing in the autumn when the fall colours are at their peak in September and October.

Difficulty: A long, steep off-trail hike. No climbing gear required. 8 hours.
Season: June through October.
Price: Includes guiding fee, and tax. Transportation available for 1 or 2 people at no extra charge. Take 10% off during the low season (before July 1 and after September 1).

Mt Schaeffer (2692 m/8830 ft)

This may be the best short climb in Canada. Located above Lake O'Hara in Yoho Park, it is accessible only by a short shuttle bus ride provided by the parks service. This ensures a quiet day for us as only a limited number of people are allowed on the bus every day. After a short hike we climb the north ridge of the peak up pleasant quartzite cliffs. You will have to use your hands occassionally and I protect you with the rope. My Mom climbed this peak for her 65th birthday!

Difficulty: An easy short hike to approach the peak and some easy rockclimbing on the route. 6-8 hours.
Season: June through October.
Price: includes guiding fee, climbing gear, bus fare and tax. Transportation available for 1 or 2 people at no extra charge. Take 10% off during the low season (before July 1 and after September 1).

Mt Norquay (2522 m/8272 ft)

This peak rises directly above the town of Banff and gives an excellent overlook of the entire Bow Valley. We start by walking through a pleasant forest and into an old burn where a forest fire came through in 1990. Soon we are on the ridge and we scramble up a few short and easy rock climbing sections. Near the top the ridge is easy walking but it is narrow and gives exhilarating exposure.

Difficulty: Some easy rock climbing, 8-10 hours hiking and climbing up and down.
Season: June through October.
Price: Includes guiding fee, climbing gear, and tax. Transportation available for 1 or 2 people at no extra charge. Take 10% off during the low season (before July 1 and after September 1).

Mt Temple (3543 m/11,621 ft)

This is the highest peak in the Lake Louise area, an outstanding viewpoint and not too difficult to climb! You will be "stoked" when you look up at the huge uplift of this peak from Lake Louise Village and know that you've climbed it!

Difficulty: Mostly off-trail walking, with a few short scrambling sections where you will have a "top-rope" to protect you. 10 hours.
Season: June through October.
Price: Includes guiding fee, climbing gear and tax. Transportation available for 1 or 2 people at no extra charge. Take 10% off during the low season (before July 1 and after September 1).
